Tarts & Tallywackers. Not to be mistaken for Bridget Jones' Tarts and Vicars party. Although, it is a beach party this year and if it's anything like the beaches in
Cuba....well...anything goes!

friend Mrs. Beck is organizing an awareness campaign and fundraiser for cancers below the waist. Such a great cause! And one that doesn't get enough "air time" as compared to other cancers. The stats are shocking. 6000 people this year will be diagnosed with a "below-the-waist" cancer such as prostate, ovarian, kidney, cervical, etc and sadly the treatment success rates aren't phenomenal either. We need more prevention, treatment, patient programs and yes, research too. Research can tend to be controversial for several reasons, yet there is a friend of my family's who is defying the odds in regards to prostate ca. He was diagnosed years ago and upon diagnosis the prognosis wasn't very positive, however he is doing phenomenally well all things considered. Of course, there are many aspects to his success but it seems that the Clinical Trials are a large part of his success. If it wasn't for research and clinical trials who knows what the outcome would have been by now. So, yay for this!
Do you know of anyone dealing with cancer or another serious illness, whether below the waist or not? Isolation and communication are often heart wrenching for patients and their families. Here's a great program which helps to keep people together. Share the bridge,
Caring Bridge, with others. It's such a wonderful link.
And....support the local Tarts & Tallywackers! They're working hard to make an impact and deserve a hand...up & out!
