The Heart of my Child

Recently W, R and I were walking and W pulled me down to whisper in my ear.
"I want to give someone a gift."

Okay. Thinking it must be for his dad or another family member.

A few moments later, another tug on my hand and whisper in my ear,
"It's for En." A little girl in his class.
" A My Little Pony."

"Okay."

Now let me share a little history here.
This little sweetie is a high energy gal with special needs of her own on so many levels. Right now her biggest need is love, safety and family. Miss En has recently been placed in temporary foster care and Social Services is searching for a long term foster home. This precious girl is now chauffeured to school, often by different drivers on a daily basis. She is hurting and lost. She is 5 yrs old and adorable. Filled with spunk and yet has the eyes of an old soul. Miss En is an amazing little being who deserves so much more than life is giving her right now. I wish I could take her home and keep her. *sigh* But she's not a stray kitten...and I cannot.

Back to W and Miss En.

W tells me he doesn't like it when people hurt Miss En and that she hasn't told him so because she knows it would upset him very, very much.

I have tried to explain Foster Care in a very 5yr old appropriate way. Whether I have succeeded...I don't know.

I do know that W has a heart of gold. A compassionate heart.

Mine swells with pride.

On Friday....W and his friend were inseparable. Unable to play with any other friend because they had each other, joined at the hip, friendly little hearts joined together too as only 5yr old friends could be.

  1. What a sweet sweet boy!
And what a heartbreaking story. It's inspiring to see the pure hearts of such little people. They're an example to all of us.

I'm glad Miss En has W as a friend and I hope she finds the family she deserves.
