Light Sleeper
Any suggestions? Our little guy has become such a light sleeper. Talking in the next room, the sound of cutlery clanging, sometimes even the latch of the gate will wake him. Other than going to bed at 730pm when he does, I'm at a loss.
As I write this, my fella is rocking & singing (again)....I woke up our little sleeper by talking too loudly.
"Twinkle, twinkle, little star...."

One Shoe & a Rear View
Errand and grocery shopping day. W is dressed for the inclement weather, which includes wearing socks & shoes. Cute shoes. Little leather sneakers that are white with navy stripes...from Millarville Farmer's Market.
Well, we make it through the post office and to lunch with both shoes on. At the grocery store I notice he has on one shoe & the sock is half way off. What?!
No shoe on the ground. Check the car...no shoe there. It must have been a lovely view for fellow shoppers to see my behind in the air as I knelt on the ground and looked under the car. So after giving the full rear view, it's back to the restaurant where we dined for lunch and alas! the shoe is found. Yay!
Which is a good thing as by this point my little guy is down to one shoe and one naked foot....plus it's raining.

Tomato Times...special request
This is a result of a grocery shopping day when my little guy decided to help himself to tomatoes in the cart. Apparently they're to be eaten like apples, before they are paid for and then it is a must to protest loudly when the mother attempts to retreive it so that the cashier can weigh the now drippy tomato that has a huge chunk out of it!
To Ms. D in LA....hope these pics brings you smiles.

The Invitation
Just a little article and author that I enjoy. This was first introduced to me at a Palliative Care workshop. It has stuck with me. May it bring you thoughtfulness as well. http://www.oriahmountaindreamer.com/

Mr. Independence
Today my boys spent all day (7am-5pm) together while I was 'sitting with my sister's kids. My fella and the little guy did great together! They didn't miss a beat and even went to the wave pool. How lovely to know that there is a little bit of freedom to be had....but a little nostalgic to know that I am not the one anymore....little Mr. Independence. Tune in next week when my little guy goes on his first date or starts college or something equally independence driven!

Laundry Lessons
Okay, so I procrastinate about putting away clean laundry (much to my fella's chagrin). I would like a "folder"; someone to fold and put away the laundry. The washing & drying are just fine.
This morning my little guy and I were putting away a rather large pile of clothes. After so much wandering about the bedroom, chewing on pieces of bark from the plant pot, and playing with the door stop in the closet, lg was bored. So up onto the bed he went to play with a few toys & clothes hangers (oh so fun!). lg was sitting right in front of me but in a few quick seconds he had taken a hanger and bolted for the opposite side of the bed. Yikes! My commands to STOP went unheaded and as I too bolted for the other side he ran right off the edge of the bed. Ugh! As he fell onto his little bottom the tears started and surprisingly enough I was able to keep mine in check. Seeing his little Winnie the Pooh clad body fall over the edge made my stomach sink. Any fall is bad enough but our bed is rather large & tall. (It reminds me of the Kentucky style furniture found at my Aunt Sis'.) Thankfully lg seems fine, but we are still off to see Dr.Hort http://www.drformoms.com to ensure all is well with his back.
So, it's a "bad-mother-morning" in which I learned a thing or two:
1) Do the laundry all at once when the little guy is not about.
2) Keep him OFF the bed (which I knew already but didn't listen to me!)

Fish...Eat the Meat, Leave the Bones
First off...let me just begin by again commenting on how blessed I am to have a fella who will happily stay home with our little guy so that I can get out of the house for an hour or two sans enfant. I'm so very, very grateful.
Tonight a dear friend and I went to church. (Now, religious I am not...spiritual? Yes, I like to think of myself as spiritual...which in itself means different things for differnt people. However, tonight put a whole new spin on "spiritual" for me) We attended the Calgary First Spiritualist Church. For the most part it was fine, interesting, a small congregation of older attendees (surprising really...I expected young, granola-free-spirited folks...a good lesson on why not to pre-judge...) then 3/4s of the way through the evening the message and evening really took a 360 degree turn in spirit.
A Medium delivered messages to random individuals in the audience, one of which was my friend. The medium's message was so accurate and applicable that it was all I could do not to sit there with my mouth gaping open and drool forming on my chin! Talk about a different, surprising and enlightening way to spend the traditional sabbath. Will I become a card carrying member? Probably not but it was enjoyable and created a wave of new thought for me ...even if just for tonight.
We are all entitled to freedom of religious expression and there are those who will think this church's indoctrinations are blasphemy and to those I might suggest, "It's like fish....eat the meat, leave the bones".

Sleepy Cheeks
A year has passed by so quickly. Our baby is no longer an infant and has moved onto toddler-hood. But still...when I watch him sleep the newness is there, the baby face, those lovely long eyelashes and squishy cheeks. It's one of my favorite sites.
The pic on the left was taken last week and the one directly below was taken last August.
Hmm...he's napping right now...maybe I should just go gaze.

Farm out of the girl?
One of my favorite summer past times is to take in the Millarville Farmer's Market on Saturday morning.www.millarville.ab.ca
The drive is lovely...cruising through the foothills, picturesque farms & acreages, mountains in the background...and the market is just as great. All sorts of yummy foods, artisans, crafty people, and flowers. Two ladies...the Suflower Ladies I call them...sell boquets for $5. A wonderful weekly treat!
This market day I found more than great buys. I ran into an old friend from my rural home town whom I haven't seen in 10yrs or so. It was nice to meet his wife and his little girl who is only 2 days younger than my little guy. What a nice surprise.
So, today I was blessed to have my fella stay at home with our little one while I enjoyed a sunny morning at the market.
Can you take the farm out of the girl? Being raised for the most part on a mixed farm means that I have rural routes (RR#1) and it seems that at times people in the city note this....yet when I am "home" in my rural community, there are those that consider me a bonafide "city-slicker". Which is it? Does it matter? Can I be both? Can you take the farm out of the girl?

Never too late too start
Here I go...Welcome to my blog...of thoughts, ideas, experiences...day to day living. Like a Sunday ride, easy & free, where there is much to absorb or just relax and enjoy the ride. Maybe a wind-blown ride where you're wearing forever young sunglasses (you know the kind, they're in style right now HUGE lenses that will stop the sun from wrinkling your sensitive skin)....or a COCO Taxi kind of ride where you're zooming down the highway at 30 km/hr with the salty sea wind on your skin and the Caribbean sea in view...Let's go!
