Monday Morning
A morning of food prep and Montessori activities at the kitchen table while compiling the recipes.
Today's menu includes Creole Chicken and Vegetables Crockpot recipe. I feel like chicken tonight! Remember that commercial?
Cabbage Soup...which undoubtedly I will be eating the majority of as "Mr. M Makes Me Eat Vegetables " will avoid it like the plague.
Transferring, Spooning and Pouring. W loves transferring pom poms mainly because of the tools he is able to use. This morning's spooning & pouring was slightly disastrous. First, Bup broke a bowl...the hazards of using glass containers and then W poured all the spooning ingredients together into one bowl. A lovely combination of corn meal, bran buds, popcorn and macaroni. Not really the way it was supposed to work out, but fun for the boys just the same.

A Special Date
In spite of the loud, yelling foul mouthed lady behind them...which incidentally made W cry as he does when either team scores a goal....TOO LOUD!....W & B had a fabulous time at the game and made it through 2 1/2 periods. Which is a major coup when you're only 3 yrs old and have more energy than the Energizer Bunny.
After the game, during the truck ride home, W phoned to excitedly tell me "I went to the hockey place and I was the BEST LISTENER IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!"
These special dates are how the best memories are made. I'm so proud of those two boys and so grateful for Uncle B for providing B & W a magical Saturday afternoon.

Montessori At Home
Ah, education. It's all encompassing and all confusing. For me anyway. Pre school or not? Kindergarten or not? Public or private? What kind of each? Fees vs mac & cheese for dinner forever?! It's all an educated guessing game, really and I think people just need to do what is best for them and their child. Although, isn't this the adage of parenting in a nut shell?
ANYWAY....We enrolled W in a Montessori preschool which started at the beginning of January. He LOVES it! In some ways it is such a fit for him....very hands on, working with real life items, self directed yet very structured in regards to how, routine and learning to do things by himself. This is the child who would rather play with his dad's tools or my cooking tools than his toys....so Montessori makes sense.
We've adapted some things into our home, like spooning and pouring. I even found some small glass bowls and cream & sugar sets for him to use at home. He loves it and asks to "do spooning".
By the way, pants aren't a pre-requisite at home...school yes.

Of course, little brother wants to do whatever big brother is doing, so Bup tries his hand at spooning too. He enjoys it...tastes it...and makes a bit of a mess...but that's ok....it's not like the floor was clean to begin with!
Today Favorite Husband surprised W by picking him up from school, meeting the teacher and seeing what kind of work W is doing at school. W was SO pleased! How sweet to witness the surprise and delight of a child over something so simple, really. It's heart warming.
