Raising Your Spirited Child

Spirited Child = More. More of everything, more personality, more, more, more.
The Spirited Child workshop hosted by Families Matter is probably one of the best parenting workshops we have attended. Today's leader is adept at adult education and so positive, encouraging and knowledgeable about children, parenting and communication in general.
Learning the nine temperaments was enlightening today and we found that six through nine are quite evident in our child, the bonus ones. Even more eye opening was analyzing our own temperament as to where the nine fit in our personality/behavior. Yikes! Apparently, I'm easily distracted....what? is that rain I hear....oh, and then...hey! did you hear that beep? dryer is done and oh!...what was I saying? Oh yeah, so, it was enlightening. I'm looking forward to next Saturday when we wrap things up and learn even more.
In case you're interested, some of the recommended reading material was"Raising Your Spirited Child" by Mary Sheedy, "Kids, Parents and Power Struggles" Mary Sheedy, "Your One year Old"- "your Ten to Fourteen Year Old" by Louise Bates Ames, "Kids are Worth It" by Barbara Coloroso, "Growing Up Again by jean Essley Clark and "Family Virtues Guide" by Linda Popov. They all look incredibly interesting and more than one will find itself in our hands although the Family Virtues Guide will be wonderful to institute into a weekly routine, especially as the boys get older. The world could use a few more virtues, and I'm certainly in need myself from time to time.
AND....we tried out a new teen age babysitter today....she did great! The boys were happy, she seemed happy and agreed to come back next Saturday...and she only lives 5 min away. WUHOO!!!!
