The Gymnast

As you may have noticed from previous entries, our W is a bit of a Houdini/climber/jumper = homegrown gymnast.
So we've decided to foster those skills for good instead of mischief.
W is enrolled in gymnastics three times a week (overkill? maybe, but this is my high energy child) and is loving it. It's amazing to see these little one's learning new skills every day.
Of course, there lack of fear is a positive characteristic when it comes to this sport.
He is not one bit scared to hang upside down from the bars and then drop into the pit. Listening, staying with his group, and the safety landing are still a work in progress but he'll get there. All in due time. Until then, we'll enjoy watching him balance on the beams, swing from the bars, do doggy drops on the trampoline and chat with his fellow gymnasts.

Oh, to have the courage of a child. It's truly amazing.

Thankfully, there is a pre-school room for R to play in while W is in class. Although sometimes he manages to sneak out until I catch him racing for the balance beams. Tricker! Then there's the issue with claiming the chairs in the pre-school room as his own. Which means the other kids may take a hit or kick to the shin if they sit in said chair. Yes, that's right, our sweet little Bup can be a bit of a bully. Can you believe it?! Shocked me too, but it's real. So are the tears of the two yr old little girl that he kicked in the shin....although she did hit him in return, she's the youngest of four so is a tuffy too.
Watching the gymnast and refereeing our little UFC member.
It's a busy hour at Mountain Shadows!

  1. I think you're exactly right here! And a good lesson to us all to go with out strengths. Channel that energy!
And oh, the two's. It's a good thing they aren't any bigger/stronger. Little toughies!

  2. The little man is definately an accomplished gymnist around the farm. I think this is where his real talent lies - forget soccer and ball and lets just stick to the balance beam and anything else we can hang on. This takes better skills to accomplish than kicking a ball arund.
I remember when --- I used to spend every spare moment I had walking and balancing on the top corral fence rails. Some were pretty small as trees did not grow that big at Amisk! And some of the fences were very high. OH I WISH I could do that today!
