ADHD Update

Thursday's follow up appt with Dr. ADHD was somewhat uneventful and predictable.

I went into the appt knowing that the main topic would be medication, which I am opposed to at this time. Too many unknowns. Too many side effects. Too scary.

Of course, Dr. ADHD is absolutely pro-meds and feels that any other method of treatment will only provide "moderate" affect at best. Well, we're willing to try all options. Moderate at 3yrs old may teach methods that provide radical affect in the future with age, maturity and repetition.

Dr. ADHD & Mr. Social Worker were pleased with how innovative we have been in finding help such as FSCD, Families Matter, Pre School, etc. Which is fine, but shouldn't the medical profession and Mr. Social Worker be pointing me in the right direction & setting these things up or at least offering them, rather than just saying, "Good job"? Argh...I find it a little frustrating. The only "help" they offer are meds. Band aid solutions. Dangerous too.

W did great during the appointment! (Bup did well too as they were both there.) Stayed in the examining room and was happy. The highlight for W was afterwards when we went to the mall next door and saw a new Dodge Challenger...of course to W it's a Corvette as all fancy cars are Corvettes in W's eyes! "We're having a really good date Mommy!"

Love you W! Love your enthusiasm, happiness and easy to please factor. Love you W!

  1. I have talked to other parents and the thing is most doctors don't know about these groups because parents don't seem to tell them I guess. I heard about chad from a mom at swimming lessons. It would be nice if they could point you in the direction though. I found that completely frustrating too.

Have you been to the nature doc?

  3. I hate that we have to educate ourselves. And then quite often are treated like we don't have a clue...cause we don't have a special piece of paper clinging to our wall indicating that we are educated! Arg with you! But you're awesome...and educated...and more in love with your son & what's best for him than any piece of paper can ever make any dude (or dudette...) in white coat!

  4. Once again it seems that other moms are our best resource. I'm so thankful to know such great women (such as yourself).
