Insomnia cont'd
Oh for the love of naps!
We managed to enjoy a lovely slumber this morning for 1.5 hrs! I feel human again. Yay!!
Insomnia cont'd
Autumn Bounty
Yum! We all thoroughly enjoyed this for dinner earlier this week.
Pumpkin Vegetable Stew
4 cups cubed peeled pumpkin (I heated the whole pumpkin in the microwave before removing the seeds & peeling...it's easier that way)
1 can (14 1/2 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
2 cups fresh/frozen cut green beans (1 in pieces)
1 cup fresh/frozen corn
1/2 cup sliced onion
1/2 cup chopped red pepper
1/2 cup chicken broth (I used the stuff made from a package...where you add water)
1 garlic clove minced (only a toe for us!)
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon pepper
In a large saucepan combine all ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover & simmer 40-45 min or until veggies are tender. OR you can throw it all in the slowcooker...that worked wonders....low setting for 3-4 hrs. YUM!

Insomnia
Why am I not asleep? Why have I been awake since 4am? Was it the nachos I consumed last night? It's now 0524...both my boys are sleeping....I wish I was too. Soon my fella's alarm will go off...then within an hour or so my little live alarm will go off too...no snooze button there. Oh, its going to be a looooooooong day. Sleep when baby sleeps right? Oh bless the boy for nap time....I can't wait for nap time.

Friends
We shared a lovely family afternoon/evening with friends. A family of friends. Which is just wonderful in itself when you have children; children chasing each other round and round the house, giggling loudly, feeding each other cereal off the floor and just having a "kitchen party Saturday night" kind of time.
I absolutely adore this picture. It looks like they are sharing a special, funny secret. One that tickles their hearts.
Aren't friends fabulous?

Breakfast with Dad
My fella graciously offered to stay at home with our little guy so that I could go Guilt Free Shopping. It was a harried experience but I managed to obtain an awesome bargain or two, such as this, for only $20 (regular $55). Wuhoo!
Upon my return, B waits while I show off my purchases, then quietly says, "We had a little mishap this morning.", as he picks up a ball of clothing. Looking closer I see W's pyjamas smeared in prunes from head to toe! What the h***! (lmao) Apparently, W managed to somehow take a half eaten jar of prunes from the table and run around the house with it. When our little guy quietly came around the corner to see his dad he already was covered head to toe, including in his eyes, and full face.
Prunes stain. I'll guess I'll laugh my way down to the laundry room and take care of that.
Unfortunately, the evidence was removed from W's face prior to my return so I wasn't able to get a picture of W in full pruneness.

Maddening, frustrating...just plain dumb
Have you ever attempted to conduct a day-to-day routine which is usually as natural as breathing but then one day it is suddenly foreign and you screw it up royally...oh but then do not notice until four days later that you screwed up? I hope you never feel this level of sickening frustration with yourself. I also hope the bank has my bank card and that I really did leave it in my branch's bank machine. I wish it was 10am so that I can rectify things. I wish my head hadn't been stuck in the clouds...or somewhere else...the last time I used said bankcard. Ugh...
Prosperity vibes to you this day!

13 Months & a bit...
There are so many new things our little guy has accomplished. He's a fun, cheerful, active boy and a genius too; I'm certain of it!
- 6th tooth has FINALLY broken through. This has taken months!
- Can drink using a straw. Wuhoo!
- "Up! Up!" and "Du" (Duck)...my first offical two words. I say "Up" while standing at the bottom of the stairs, or the edge of the couch, or at your legs. "Duck" I can pick out a duck in my picture books...sometimes I kiss him too!
- "Mr Brown Can Moo, Can you?" On the thunder page, W turns to this page and immitates the thunder sound we make.
- Love to be chased around the kitchen island! I giggle and laugh while running away and sometimes I wipe out while racing around the corner.
Surely there are more milestones met, but I shall not list them just yet. There's always another day...another entry...

Keeping Family Close
The majority of our extended family does not live in our city. So the question is how do we keep them real for W?
On the change table is a photo album with pictures of family members. It never fails that W always turns to this photo of his Uncle B, chats away and then points him out to me. Must be a favorite! Well, his Uncle B is pretty fun and always gets a giggle or two out of W so it's no surprise.

Playdate
This morning we went here to play with the Bug & the Bee. It was a super fun time! Now we just need to figure out how we can build a play area like this in the basement.....

To TV or Not to TV
Now, I'm not a fan of children watching copious amounts of TV. At the age of 13 months, my little guy really doesn't need to watch any...ever. But today I found myself putting on a Baby Einstein DVD and strapping W into his high chair with snacks so that I could empty and refill the dishwasher without any "help". What am I doing? Creating a couch potato? Or just keeping him safe and me sane?
Much to my chagrin, our little guy loves to cuddle up on the couch to watch a little telly with his daddy. Yikes! What will happen once hockey season officially opens? I'm in big trouble!

Guilt free shopping
Everyone loves for their little people to be on the best dressed list. Which can be an expensive task. This weekend there are two events that will help ease the financial challenge of kids clothing and other necessities. I'm an avid children's consignment shopper. Actually, I can count on one hand how many brand new items I have purchased for W. Brand spanking new is wonderful but previously loved clothing, toys, etc are often quality items that look like new or still have the tags on them. Plus, my little guy tends to grow out of things quite quickly therefore clothing is hardly worn by the time it's in storage and his wardrobe needs to be replenished.
Anyway, if you're interested this Saturday is the: St Patricks Kids Used Clothing & Toy Sale, no strollers allowed, 10am -1pm $1 Admission
Twins Triplets & More, Calgary's Largest Used Children's General Items Sale 10am-1pm Admission $1 Bowness Community Association- Cash only sales

Blissful Bath
A long scented soak in the tub is a lovely way to end the day. Tonight I tried this in the water. Lovely Lavender. Wonderful...if you don't mind bathing in bits of actual lavender.
Afterwards I tried this on my face. I swear you could almost eat it!Somehow a little escaped my face and into my mouth and it actually tastes like oranges. Not sure yet, what I think of the facial properties yet. We shall see....
In college I loved to go "drug store shopping"....new body care products, cosmetics, etc....oh a bit of a junkie I was. This fascination has been scaled down over the years, but its still fun to try something new. If only I could find the perfect facial cleanser and stick with it! Until then, I'll try not to eat my current one.

Calgary Moms
Today I went here. It was not worth the effort. 15 minutes in and out. The only good exhibitor that caught my eye was the Lifestyle Wellness Centre, which I already attend. Other exhibitors were AVON, Tupperware, Passion Parties, Princess House, etc. They're just not for me. Definately other people are interested in their products, but not so much me. Really, is there not a better venue for purchasing your "where everyday is valentine's day" products? Maybe I'm a prude....that's been said of me before. It was lovely to get out of the house though (thanks fella!).
On Sunday November 19th is the "Mompreneur" Christmas Trade Fair. We shall see what interesting ideas it brings about.

Follicle Chronicle
For myself....I am a lover of big-hair. This is a direct result of my 80's days and the fact that I have naturally curly hair. Why fight it? Work with what you've got, right? Lately, of course, I lost my head and cut my hair super short and have since decided to grow it out. This will take light years!
Recently I attended a public event and while waiting for it to begin, noticed three men of varying ages (all under 45yrs) sitting ahead of me. All had rather large bald spots. Well...two were much more than "spots". More like bald prairie pastures with a fringe of quack grass growing around the edges. Obviously the sun had been out earlier as one fella's fringe was white & a little long. The other two were trimmed neatly and reddish. Now, my fella could join this trio, but thankfully he knows that bald is beautiful, bald is strength and "chicks dig it". For this I am grateful. But I have to chuckle to myself and wonder what is the trio holding onto? Youth? Who are the fooling? Themselves? And one more thing....thank goodness combovers are a thing of the past!

Heart Songs
Let this song always touch your heart & brighten your day. An old highschool friend's 19mth old boy lost his battle with cancer recently. This song was "their" song...he & his mom's....and was played at his memorial service yesterday.
Sing out loud...keep all little one's alive and close...treasure the little one's in your life.
Until next time, keep singing...

Bugs = Cannibals
We have an aphid problem. Yuck! My little flower garden is covered in them. So, I have decided to get rid of them the natural way. Today I discovered The Bug Lady. Hopefully the 500 ladybugs I ordered will arrive before it's too late for them to winter.
Bugs on line. Too fun!
