On Wed Bup had the second stage of Orchidoplexy surgery. Thank goodness this health issue is complete.
Of course, our littlest man did really well. In fact he fell asleep while we were waiting to be taken to pre-op. Unfortunately once there he was woken by the resident anesthetist, which was unnecessary as they ended up delaying he surgery for an hour and a half. Ugh! More waiting. Which is hard for everyone, but especially when you're 16 months old and fasting since the night before. Poor muffy!
He looks like a baby pincushion since the staff had trouble starting an IV. Approximately 15 pokes later [11 in his feet], and one was finally started in his wrist. It just breaks my heart to see that. Just like it moved me to tears to leave him on the table in the operating theatre after the initial anesthetic had been administered. I'm grateful to be there singing to R and holding his hands as they administer the gas-mask, but still....it's heart wrenching. R & I both look forward to not doing that again.
One sweet little moment was shortly after he was in my arms from post-op, and the nurse brought a pineapple popsicle as he wouldn't drink. Bups first popsicle. I gave him a taste and he opened his eyes, looked up at me, and said, " Mmmmm.". :) Music to our ears!
R is recovering well. Today is even better than yesterday....a little less sore, a little less unsteady on his feet and no more tears when he's picked up.
So happy all of that business is over with. Glad to hear it went well and Baby R is recovering nicely!
ReplyDeleteHe's recovering well....despite the VERY colorful bruising. Poor babe. Those areas should not be jewel toned!
ReplyDeleteHe's such a trooper! Men would be in bed for days and the wee babes are up & at it in no time. It's amazing really.
Gotta love the little fella. He is so great to take everything in stride. Hope this all soon ends. No more poking or needles. He is no doubt the toughest little H going!
