Down there! Under wear?!

Tarts & Tallywackers. Not to be mistaken for Bridget Jones' Tarts and Vicars party. Although, it is a beach party this year and if it's anything like the beaches in Cuba....well...anything goes!
Blogging friend Mrs. Beck is organizing an awareness campaign and fundraiser for cancers below the waist. Such a great cause! And one that doesn't get enough "air time" as compared to other cancers. The stats are shocking. 6000 people this year will be diagnosed with a "below-the-waist" cancer such as prostate, ovarian, kidney, cervical, etc and sadly the treatment success rates aren't phenomenal either. We need more prevention, treatment, patient programs and yes, research too. Research can tend to be controversial for several reasons, yet there is a friend of my family's who is defying the odds in regards to prostate ca. He was diagnosed years ago and upon diagnosis the prognosis wasn't very positive, however he is doing phenomenally well all things considered. Of course, there are many aspects to his success but it seems that the Clinical Trials are a large part of his success. If it wasn't for research and clinical trials who knows what the outcome would have been by now. So, yay for this!
Do you know of anyone dealing with cancer or another serious illness, whether below the waist or not? Isolation and communication are often heart wrenching for patients and their families. Here's a great program which helps to keep people together. Share the bridge, Caring Bridge, with others. It's such a wonderful link.
And....support the local Tarts & Tallywackers! They're working hard to make an impact and deserve a hand...up & out!

  1. Thanks for the shout-out, you totally made me blush :o)

The numbers are staggering and frightening, one of the Tarts on our team lost her Mom to cervical cancer a few years ago and I've been diagnosed with pre-cancerous cells off and on for the past 10 years...it's like playing the waiting game in my mind. So, we're trying to do what we can to promote some awareness and fund some cancer care programs through the AB Cancer Foundation.

Love love love your new penguin! I'm off to go check out the link you mentioned...

  2. Ah, you're most welcome. The more the word gets out the better.
Yes, I've experienced the pre-cancerous cells, biopsy's, etc business too. It's not nice.
And I agree wholeheartedly about needing more programs, something tangible and forefront for the people...support.

  3. Totally makes me laugh...the name, not the cancer...
We have friends who lived through prostate cancer this summer. I think all is well at right now, but everything can change in a moment.
