Audiology Appointment

Tuesday was Bup's day at the Children's Hospital for a hearing exam. Which was requested by the Speech Path as sometimes people's hearing isn't quite fine tuned enough for speech to develop properly.

It always amazes me how technology/science can test all these systems on little people. It was so fun to watch R respond in the sound booth. After each sound and box with the stuffed animal would light up, Bup started saying hi to the stuffies. It was pretty cute!

Then we moved into a second testing room where he sat on my knee, watching Nemo while the tech inserted a ear "plug" into his ear that emits a sound to which his eardrum responds by emitting a sound in response & these waves are captured & measured on a computer graph. Amazing!!

Of course, Bup did not like any "camera" being placed in his ears. There was a little crying and struggling yet he did SUPER!

And the results? His left ear's hearing is perfect! His right ear? Did not pass the tests. This may be due to him having a little cold and fluid build up from it or maybe something else. So, we're going to wait for the cold to pass and retest again in May.

  1. Hey that sounds so familiar! : ) We did the same kind of testing for KC due to speech issues. KC ended up getting tubes for fluid, and not only did his hearing improve right away, his speech development jumped in leaps and bounds. It was totally worth it. And by the way, the tubes were by far the easiest procedure KC's ever had. Fifteen min. and then he was eating a donut! Anyway, I am not sure if this is were you guys are headed but if you are then it may end up working out really well like it did for us.

  2. It's amazing what they can do...sometimes!
I'm pretty sure kids are just ignoring me. But maybe I should check!

Here's hoping ear no. 2 is great too.
